WHAT DOES SATIVA AND INDICA MEAN?

The terms sativa and indica have been used by the cannabis community to differentiate between the effects that you feel when consuming a strain, however scientific research is starting to tell us otherwise. The myth was perpetuated within the cannabis community based on “bro science” and the idea that one plant's physical expression causes different effects, is not based on scientific evidence.

Sativa and Indica are terms used to describe the morphology of the plant, relating to the way the plant looks while it's growing, rather than the effects. Hybrid strains are a blend between the two, but also only refers to the physical attributes of the strain. The effects of each strain are based on the entourage effect, which looks at the interaction between cannabinoids and the terpenes found in cannabis. Terpenes are what give the different cannabis cultivars the variety of flavors and effects that consumers are looking for.

When selecting a strain that is going to suit your needs, engage with your budtender and ask what the terpene profile is and whether that strain is going to be energizing or relaxing, or a perfect blend between the two.
